My Favorite Photography Accessories

(This is a picture of star trails in Southern Utah taken in Capital Reef -Nicole)

Everyone has their favorite camera brands and equipment. All the debating aside, here are a few of my favorite accessories that can go with any of your cameras.

The Gary Fong Puffer Plus is a flash diffuser that fits right into the external flash attachment. It is simple, light and doesn't take any batteries. It flashes even, soft and absolutely beautiful. A fellow photographer, Sanae James introduced this to me several years ago and I live with it on my camera.

Next up is my backpack. I first got this back in 2011 so I could attend a photography workshop in Southern Utah in Capital Reef. It was so great to have it. It holds both of my cameras and 3 different lenses and my Fong diffuser. It's nice to have something that is centered on my back and doesn't swing around like your traditional sling camera bags.

Last for today is the Neewer 43inch reflector. It has several different reflective surfaces to redirect light in a photo shoot. My favorite thing about it though is the white center of it. All the way under the reflective surfaces is a white filter so you can block direct sunlight from your subject. Some days you just can't wait for the perfect light. I take this with me everywhere (attached to my backpack). It's super light and folds down into a 12" circle that zips up. It's great for getting rid of sunspots and I couldn't be a photographer without it.

Photography Books

I love photography! I love learning too. As a mother of young children I have found that reading is one of the best ways (let's face it, it's the only way sometimes) that I can gain the knowledge I need. I have 2 photography books that I really enjoyed and want to share with you.

This is the first book on photography that I found that didn't sound like reading stereo instructions. It has great tips on improving your photography and a gives you advice in an entertaining manner. It's worth the read for sure.

Lighting is so, so, so important in photography. This book is a great! It makes understanding the settings on your camera for light so much easier. There wasn't a direct link, but the book is available on amazon.

They say our first 10,000 pictures are our worst so get out there and get those 10,000 shots out of the way! Happy shooting.

Coming soon* I will share some of my favorite photography accessories that have been with me for the last 8 years or so that I couldn't live without.
