10 Tips on How to Soothe a Sore Throat

I have had a lot of experience with sore throats. I had strep throat and tonsilitis more times than I can count before I finally got my tonsils out a few years ago. Right now I have a nasty sore throat and I am breaking out all my old tricks to help it feel better.

My throat hurt so bad today I didn't want to eat anything. It felt like somebody had taken a razor to my throat and slashed it up. My breakfast was marshmallows and honey and they didn't hurt my throat, but soothed it instead!

How to help your sore throat:

1. Marshmallows. Just eat a big marshmallow! For some reason it helps!

2. Honey. Eat a spoonful of it or spread it over some toast.

3. Hot Chocolate. I feel like it help burns some of the germs away. Plus put marshmallows in and that helps even more!
4. Throat Spray to help numb your throat.

5. Mouthwash with Chlorasceptic in it.
6. Gargle with warm salt water. Its gross, but it really does help kill germs in your throat and helps clean and soothe it.

7. Ibuprofen. It helps the swelling go down in your glands and throat and helps the pain.
8. Cough Drops

9. Suck on things, suckers, candy, etc.

10. Gargling Hydrogen Peroxide will also help kill germs and when the germs are gone, your throat won't hurt! I know its gross, but it helps!

Hope you get feeling better! Remember if you have white spots in your throat, a tummy ache, a fever. and swollen glands you probably have strep and need to get to the doctor and get on antibiotics ASAP!

Save This Post for When You Are Having a Bad Day

Hard as we try, and especially when we don't try, we all get the blues.

If you find yourself in a yucky slump:

  • Go outside
  • Change something--anything--it can be totally unrelated to your blueness
  • Paint your toenails
  • Take a few deep breaths and then listen to a song from the first CD you ever owned
  • Cry
Or better, find a reason to laugh. Need some help getting started?

  • Take a moment to laugh at--I mean with--these people or these people who are probably having a worse day than you
  • Watch this guy falling for 9 seconds.  I dare you to watch it only once.
  • Indulge in Jimmy Fallon hashtags
  • AFV highlights never disappoint

Good news! This post is reusable.
I will be updating with new links, to be used for multiple less than great days.

Confession: I have horrible skin

Ever since I can remember my skin has been oily, splotchy and downright gross. Even the skin on my body is super sensitive. For years and years I've gone back and forth about what I think works and what doesn't. I finally found some things that have been working ok.
For the most part, healthy skin starts on the inside. If I ONLY drink water and keep my sugar intake to a minimum, it really helps. I take a plethora of vitamins and one that I love for several reasons is cayenne.
My wonderful friend Nikki Sasser had me start taking this when I was experiencing fertility issues (along with some other things) and it's wonderful on so many levels. It helps with circulation and if I stop taking it for a few days my skin gets worse.

I use Clinique for my makeup and soap. It covers the best and is hypoallergenic.  I have their sonic scrubber that I use too. My skin is oily, even in the dessert, so make sure you use their products designed for your skin type.

Every night I've started using Aloe Vera on my face. It helps heal all the break outs and takes the red out of my skin tone.

I have also had to start using free and clear laundry detergents. If I use a whitener or bleach or anything else with my laundry I break out in a rash. I have tried the all natural ones and even have made a few of my own, but I haven't found one that REALLY cleans great. I have kids so that's not really an option. Their clothes get disgusting.

I didn't realize that it would be such hard work keeping my skin at a happy normal, but what can you do? I am no doctor or scientist. I've just found these things help me. Hopefully you can find some useful tips for yourself. ---Nicole
